Cheap thrills!
Last Friday I hit up a few garage sales, for the most part they were overpriced. I mean c’mon I’m not paying $15 for your old sweaters, that aren’t even in good condition. But then came a listing that said something like “Warehouse Sale”….intriguing…no clue what this could mean but….intriguing. Well I come upon a happening part of town & think to myself, “Self did you write the address wrong, there isn’t any warehouses in this nei-” That’s me stopping because I saw a warehouse with a huge homemade banner that said “WAREHOUSE GARAGE SALE”.
Tim is the collector & told me that he is getting rid as much as he can of his stuff because they are tearing the warehouse down to make a parking lot for a new bar going up. Junk heaven. Have you seen American Pickers? If so it’s like that, a warehouse stacked full of stuff. I didn’t even scratch the surface of this place. It was wonderful! For the most part I hung out in the toys/books area! I won’t name everything I got, I’ll just show you & give you a quick breakdown. 15 books, 3 boardgames, a broken clock (he insisted I take it), 33 Winnie the pooh stamps set (vintage?), 3 milk glasses & a carrier for the milk glasses. And all for the low, low price of $5!! Oh wait there was also a glow in the dark triceratops that Micah picked up while we were there, but I couldn’t pry that guy away from him!
This picture was pre-wipe down of the books. Most are board books that got a quick wipe down & are in fairy good condition. Some books are children’s book from the 40s-60s that are in fair to excellent condition. The good books we put away in our bookshelf, the ones in sad condition I’ll be pulling the illustrations out & framing them. Because there are some BEAUTIFUL illustrations but there are water damage to some books that mean that half the book is squished together. It’s going to make me sad to tear the books apart but it’s better that good pieces get a chance at a new life. I don’t know if anyone is a Raggedy Ann fan but I have a book in fairly good condition (great to frame images from the book) from 1955, if you want it just shoot me a comment/email.
That’s lame…
You know what’s lame? When a blogger hasn’t blogged in almost a month & then comes on to make a blog post about how they haven’t blogged…..yeah that’s so lame. Glad that’s not me… *insert shifty eyes right about here*
Lots has been going on lately but life has kicked my butt and pinned me down…and well I’ve chosen sleep over blogging pretty much. But you can for sure catch me on twitter. Limiting me to 140 characters? Yes, I like that since I can get quite chatty at times & then it goes into nothingness. Yes nothingness is a word, so please stop looking at me that way.
Nifty Thrifty!
I’ve been on such a thrifting high lately! I’ve been getting wonderful clothes at dirt cheap prices! And this weekend takes the cake! I saw a listing on craigslist for someone having a garage sale & they wanted to just get rid of the whole lot of it. Seeing that it was so close I thought “Hey what could it hurt to go look”. Well this lady has a decent amount of stuff left. So we talked, I paid & then we stuffed my car full of garage sale “junk” as my husband thought I bought.
And after unpacking my car I was like “Oh no, what if I can’t resell any of it? What if it is all junk?”….
After a few hours of organizing the things into four piles. Sell on ebay, throw into my next garage sale, freecycle & trash. The ebay pile was bigger then I would have thought. It included new & gently used children’s clothes (GAP, land’s end & Old Navy), maternity clothes (MOTHERHOOD mostly), a pile of VHS tapes (apparently people buy this on ebay in large lots), a stack of cassette tapes (actually these will probably not even make it onto ebay, need to do more research) and a stack of cloth diaper covers (enough to make $50 easily!). Lots of good stuff. Garage sale pile was mainly Target brand clothing. The losers of the batch? Ice-cream maker, some silly foot rest thing for a kid’s car seat & stuffed animals.
I’ll be happy to tell you guys how much I profit from ebay after all the auction are finished.
Oh and how much did I buy it all for?
$20.
Yup.
I’ll admit it.
I’ll admit it, I don’t care for children birthday parties. I mean SOMETIMES they are okey but going with a two year isn’t the best. He can’t play most of the games, heck most of the 4 year old kids weren’t getting the concept of musical chairs. For us birthday parties mean bunches of junk food & watching other kids do stuff. This year Micah has been allowed to go in the bounce houses with older kids since I doubt he’ll be getting hurt, so that’s a good thing.
I just don’t like kid’s birthday parties. They end up being stressful, filled with junk food and socializing. Actually I wouldn’t mind the socializing if I didn’t have to wrestle a sugar filled two year old. What makes it all worth it? Seeing Micah happy & being with friends/family. So anyone other parents with me ? Heck you don’t even have to be parents, I disliked kids parties before I had Micah. Nothing better then swarms of people asking you when you”re going to settle down to have kids, right?
Do kid’s birthday parties get easier with your kid getting older? And what’s the BEST kid’s birthday party that you’ve been to?
Take me down!
I have yet to talk about the demo of our garage/shed/eye sore. I’ve tweeted about it & posted pictures via twitter. But yet to make a post & now it is gone. All gone except for a few bags of trash that won’t be able to be salvaged. I would say we salvaged a good 80% of the building. Either composting the wood or reusing it for future projects, most of it is getting reused. We didn’t even need a huge dumpster for this demo. The amount of trash we had was an acceptable amount for the garbage guys to pick up. Currently my back yard looks a little like this, except much wetter because we’ve had heavy rain all morning. Which is awesome for the grass & grass seed that was put down this weekend. Way to go mother nature!
This is WAY better then what was there, it was a scary eye sore hazard! These pictures are just shy of two weeks ago. Two weeks ago when I thought, “Will this thing EVER be gone!?”. Yes it’s gone & I can’t wait to have a party in my “new” backyard! It took up the front part of the backyard making it look tiny. But now we have plans for this perfect summer time hang out. Paint, furniture, kid pool and so much more! Yes…I said paint. Just wait to see
When you can’t find a spoon.
Since Micah has learned how to open to the fridge with ease & ninja like skill. So now he is constantly grabbing what he wants without dragging me to the fridge. Yogurt, he has fallen in love with it. He’ll grab a yogurt & have me get him a spoon. Well on this particular day, he just grabbed one of Mr. Potato Head’s crazy yellow arms. Yes he ate the whole container of yogurt with the hand & it was hilarious to watch.
